For the first time since WWII, the number of cars destroyed outnumbered the number of new purchases in 2009. 14 million destroyed compared to 10 million purchased shrinking the total in operation by 2%. During WWII this happened due to the needs of the military and scrap metal, but now it’s all from the economy.
It will be interesting how this effects auto insurance rates over all.
